Teliti Datacentres @ enstek techpark

As more of our lives go online, there is a real and growing need for secured data storage in the cyberworld. Locally these data centres have traditionally been housed in existing buildings or part of an existing complex. As the requirements become more sophisticated, the data centres need to evolve to reflect these needs. In a site of 5.8 acre lot at Enstek Tech Park in Negeri Sembilan, a stand alone data centre is proposed to cater to this increasing demand. The challenge is to provide a highly secured with zero power outage facilities which meet international standards. The complex consists of two simple structures; the computer block which has a gross built up of 38,000 sq m over three floors and the mechanical and electrical block. The mechanical and electrical block is to ensure uninterrupted power to the computer block which needs to operate on a 24/7 basis.

To reduce the data centre consumption of energy, which mainly is used to maintain a consistent environment within the building, passive design features are employed. A secondary skin is introduced to shade the building facades whilst giving the opportunity to create a strong identity for the data centre. With a foot print of 83.2m x 87.5m, the massive flat roof is a green roof. The sky garden helps to insulate the building further. The design challenge is to turn what is essentially a simple box into an iconic structure. The whole structure is treated as an an object rather than mere facades. The skin takes on an independent identity and is fluid. Grafting itself onto the building, it binds together all the components, transforming the structure into a new typology. Together with the sky garden, the building
reflects our physical world and the cyberworld of information; a mirror onto the dynamic nature of the data centre.
